Removing and Preventing Mold in Concord Attics

SERVPRO Offers a Full Service of Mold Remediation and Insulation Installation
There is mold in every home in Concord. Specifically, there are mold spores in every home. In most of them, the spores are dormant, and these dry, microscopic specs pose no threat to the home itself or the residents inside.
When there is enough moisture, then the spores begin to expand and develop in Concord and other Massachusetts homes. Mold in the attic then becomes an issue for SERVPRO technicians to inspect, clean, and remove from the house, duplex, or apartment building.
Most of the moisture we find in a home which causes spores to become active is usually from a leaking pipe or a water line with a seep. In attics, the problem can often be poor insulation or simply not enough to protect the space and property stored under the roof.
When there is not enough insulation, more heat from the rooms below rises into the attic. This increased amount of warm, moist air comes in contact with the colder, dry air already present and forms moisture on the support beams and other surfaces.
When enough forms, it drips down onto the insulation and other surfaces, leaving pools of water that serve as perfect, little breeding spots for mold spores to expand and grow. The dripping water also compacts the insulation, especially blown-in insulation. Compacted insulation quickly loses its ability to reflect heat back into the home, which increases the amount of warm air that escapes into the attic, causing more drops of moisture to form.
If this happens, SERVPRO technicians must not only clean and remove the mold and puddles of water, but the compacted insulation as well. We can do this with a commercial grade vacuum and a hose that draws out the affected insulation into a sealed bag or another container for disposal. For tight areas where we cannot use the vacuum, we use long-handled tools to reach in and pull out clumps of compacted insulation.
Once we have the old insulation removed, technicians spray every surface with an anti-fungal agent to kill most remaining spores. If needed, we can also use a fogger device to fill the attic with the chemical cleaner to get into every nook and cranny we might not be able to reach otherwise.
Then, we allow the attic to completely dry. If we need to speed up the process, we can use air movers to force warm, dry air over the attic. Our last step is to replace the insulation with new and make certain to use enough to protect your home from further mold and to lower your heating bills.
Removing mold is never a simple process, but SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord can help you with every step, ensuring your home is clean, dry, and safe to live in once more. If you have, or suspect mold in your residence, call us today at (978) 486-9868.
